Rafael Guimarães is a Brazilian artist, entrepreneur and English teacher based in Porto Alegre.
Son of a judge and a journalist-lawyer mother, and grandson of pioneering watercolorist Nathaniel Guimarães, he grew up surrounded by different ways of seeing. That inheritance shows up as work that is personal and instinctive rather than academic.
His drawings and paintings sit between memory and meditation — childhood, vulnerability, affection, loneliness, imagination. Childhood is not only nostalgia; it is the place where feelings were simpler and stronger, before we learned to hide them. Figures, ordinary objects, imperfect lines and sudden color let the viewer recognize something of their own story. The textures and unfinished lines stay. They are part of the truth of each piece.
